History of BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited):
- BPCL- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
- It is an Indian government-owned oil and gas explorer and producer.
- BPCL is under the ownership of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, It runs two large refineries in Kochi and Mumbai.
- It is India’s second-largest downstream government-maintained oil corporation
- The company today known as BPCL started off as “Rangoon Oil” and Exploration company set up to explore the new discoveries off Assam and Burma during the British colonial rule of India.
Bharat Petroleum runs the following refineries:
- Mumbai Refinery
- Kochi Refinery
- Bina Refinery at Bina, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh. It was started as Bharat Oman Refineries Limited (BORL), a jv between Bharat Petroleum and OQ (formerly known as Oman Oil Company).
- Numaligarh Refinery at Numaligarh, Golaghat district, Assam
